Dal is one of the most nutritive and tasty treats having Indian origin. This is mainly eaten with rice and vegetables. It is almost a routine food item in all Indian households. It is mainly made up of different pulses and lentils. The dish plays a great role in providing the essential dietary supplements to an individual. There are several kind of pulses or dals produced in India, the most popular among them happen to be, the Moong Dal, Musur Dal, The Matar or Chana Dal, The Arhar Dal, Urad Dal, Rajma dal and many others. There are several dal recipes that are prepared by the people of the different states in India. One of the most famous forms of dal recipes happens to be, the Sambar Dal. It s mainly a dish from South India, in which a spicy soup is made with toor dal mixed with tamarind, asafoetida and turmeric. This dal is very tasty to have and is taken with all major South Indian dishes, such as, Dosas, Idlis and others. The Sambar dal has specific medicated attributes too.

Here is a simple dal recipe that can be very easily made at a very short period of time without much prior preparations.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Moong Dal ( Green Gram)
  • 1 small Onion chopped
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Pinch of Hing
  • 1 long chopped Green Chillies
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 2 Curry Leaves
  • Few Coriander leaves
Preparation:

Wash the dal well and pressure cook it for some time. Mash the dal and add up a hint of hing to it and add up salt to taste. Then take some oil in a pan and heat it. Add green chilli, cumin seed, curry leaves and mustard seed to it and season it. Add chopped onion and fry it till golden. Put the mashed moong dal to it and then let it boil till 2-3 boils. You can garnish the dal with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve it hot.
